Yes. Since GPT Image 2.6 launched in November 2026, ChatGPT can turn a prompt or an uploaded image into an animated GIF of 2 to 16 frames. This ChatGPT GIF generator uses the same model and adds frame and speed controls, so you get the GIF without a chat.
Is this the same model as ChatGPT?
It runs GPT Image 2.6 Flare, the GPT Image 2.6 model with GIF output, through an API. GPT GIF is an independent tool and is not affiliated with OpenAI.
Can I turn a photo into a GIF?
Yes. Add one photo and describe the motion, for example "the dog blinks and wags its tail". The AI keeps the photo the same in every frame and only animates what you describe. Only upload photos you have the right to use.
How many frames and how fast?
Short is 4 frames, Standard is 9 and Long is 16. Speed sets how long each frame shows: Slow 400 ms, Normal 200 ms, Fast 100 ms. A Standard GIF at Normal speed plays for 1.8 seconds and loops forever.
What size are the GIFs?
Each GIF is square, 512 × 512 pixels, and usually under 1.5 MB. That is small enough for chats, emails, Slack, Discord and websites.
